My Fishing Heritage

I had a great start when I-95 was
built passing about a mile behind the house I grew up in. The sand used to build
the interstate highway came from pits that made excellent fish ponds. I had
three to fish and swim in. About 29 acres of fun.

My maternal grandparents, Mary
Adelyne Crow Patrick, above and Lawrence Gray Patrick, below liked the water
and, thank goodness, liked to take pictures.
Now as for my parents...Vernon had
the best trolling motor made, at the time...My MOM!
Billie Gray Patrick Holt

Dad still hasn't said whether or not
she caught that bass.
Or whether or not these saltwater
trout and sheephead came from a trip to Ossabaw!

As I was scanning these photos, I
realized that my paternal grandfather in the picture below, Vernon J. Holt, Sr.
would have turned 100 on July 29, 1998, a few days before I started this page. I
have wondered what he would have said about having his picture shown on
something called the internet.

My thanks to these folks for passing
on to me the love of the outdoors...
