The Georgia Coast
2
We started with the
bows sometime about '69 or '70. There were no sport shops where
we could buy gear, so we mail ordered what we needed from Herter's.
The first few years were a slow start, mainly because the season
was only 2 weeks as I recall which only let us hunt a few days
each year. When the gun season came in the bows were put up...

This was the heaviest buck we weighed on the coast at 156
lbs. and the best rack that was harvested by bow. At one time
the buck was so close to my Dad he couldn't shoot and had to wait
until the buck walked away from him to get the shot. Dad harvested
several of his better bucks by bow...

We scale weighed our
deer and removed jaw bones for many years gathering harvest information
for Dept. of Natural Resources Biologists.
